Sheltered Workshop/Vocational Training

Facility Based Employment

WOC, Inc. provides vocational training.Vocational Training services are provided in our Agawam facility Monday - Friday from 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Employees (program participants) work on a supervised production line performing a variety of light assembly, packaging and mail services.

Most work is performed on a piece rate basis. There are some jobs within the facility such as janitorial positions, operating production and mail house machines that are paid at an hourly rate.

Work Opportunity Center, Inc. (WOC, Inc.) provides round trip transportation from home to our facility for individuals receiving services from the Departmental of Developmental Services.

Career Development Seminars

Career Development Seminars offered.

While being employed and learning new work skills, individuals are able to attend career development seminars. Topics include improving work habits, exploring career choices, safety within the workplace and interviewing techniques.

We have opportunities for employees to learn specialized skills such as operating a cash register, general office duties and computer training.

Peer Mentoring

Peer Mentoring.

WOC, Inc. has a strong Peer Mentoring program in place. Several individuals have been trained in janitorial, cash register operations, navigating computer programs and they in turn work with their co-workers (peers) and guide them through these tasks.

Integrated Workforce Development

Integrated workforce environment.A unique aspect of our agency is hiring non developmentally disabled individuals to perform some of the production work in our production facility.

This provides for a more integrated workforce allowing people to work along side each other on certain production projects. Together they operate shrink wrapping machines, palletize completed work and helping with resupplying materials needed throughout the day.

The programming received within the Vocational Training program provides a solid foundation for individuals to expand their employment options, particularly into community based employment.
